CRS pregnant female - close up video

Postby Finley » Sun Jan 11, 2015 9:29 pm

I made a video of a heavily pregnant CRS. Not having seen this before, I think it's quite amazing!

She's not my best female looks-wise, but she certainly knows how to breed and has had some nice babies already:

Interestingly, this female just died - within 48 hours of dropping her eggs.

Is that something that happens a lot? What causes it?

Stress is probably the main cause. It takes alot out of the shrimp when they pregnant and she will drop her eggs if she unable to carry. Have you checked your water params?

Yes, the water's good. Other shrimp are fine.

I did wonder if they need some kind of pregnancy supplement to optimise their health, because of the extra drain on their bodies to grow those eggs. Is there any such thing recommended for shrimp? Mine are already fed well though, so...
