A few brownish CRS from red CRS- what are these?

Postby Finley » Thu Mar 12, 2015 2:28 pm

I have a nice colony of CRS. Two or three were born that are sort of a dark brown colour where the red usually is. Their heads are especially dark.

All of their brothers and sisters are bright red/white, then are these few that are much darker/brownish. They are quite different.

What do you make of this?

Thanks :)

They are crystal black shrimp. Sound like low grade. Do you have and Taiwan bee in the tank?

Nope, no TBs.

I did wonder about CBS, but they are not black. Definitely variations of reddish-brown. They are also kind of lower quality in their markings overall, whereas my reds are quite consistently good.

They happen to all be male, if that means anything genetically.

Sounds like a CRS and CBS crossbreed. You get them regularly as culls when people off load them. They appear like normal CRS when small but the recessive black gene will appear when they get older and they turn out brownish in colour.

Interesting.

These were actually bred from my own colony of good reds. There's no parent that resembles them.
